Deep Dive into Flex 4.5

Adobe Flex is a highly productive, free, open source framework for building expressive mobile, web, and desktop applications. In this workshop you will learn how to build high fidelity applications using the new, high performance, Flex 4 Spark architecture. The workshop will dive into the organization of the framework, application basics, skinning workflows and also touch upon how you can use this to create applications for multiple devices from one codebase. As a part of this workshop, you will also be exposed to Flash Builder 4.5 which increases developer productivity dramatically for building applications. This workshop will also touch upon extending the Flex framework, through custom components, which enables you to create differentiated experiences. Additionally, if you are a Flex 3 developer, this workshop will also highlight some of the core changes in Flex 3 compared to Flex 4 and point you in the right direction if you need to migrate Flex 3 applications to Flex 4.

Deepa Subramaniam is a Product Manager on the Flex team primarily focusing on the Flex SDK. Before joining the Flex Product Management team, she was a lead engineer on the Flex 1-4 releases and has been working on Flex since its inception in 2003. She is the author of the Adobe Flex 3 for Dummies book and has a degree in Computer Science from UC Berkeley.

Building Rich Enterprise Applications with Adobe LiveCycle ES & Adobe Flex

Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite makes it easier for people to interact with information through intuitive user experiences, improved efficiencies through business process automation, and enhanced customer service through personalized communications management.

During this workshop attendees will learn the basics of LiveCycle ES, a leading enterprise software platform. The introduction will cover creating a LiveCycle ES application, creating a PDF interactive form, including it within a Business Process and programmatically invoking the process via Java over SOAP. Additionally, the workshop will show how developers can create a rich Internet application with Flex and connect it to a LiveCycle service. LiveCycle Mosaic allows developers to aggregate multiple RIAs into a single personalized and customized view. We will conclude this workshop with a look into how to evolve a LiveCycle application into a Mosaic application. Attendees will walk away with the basic knowledge about LiveCycle including an understanding of what the technology is, what the key concepts and components are, how developers can use them and where to get more information.

As Senior Technical Evangelist for Adobe Systems, Duane Nickull is responsible for Adobe's messaging around enterprise architecture in the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web services spaces plus Web 2.0. Duane is also the host of the popular internet TV series Duane's World (tv.adobe.com). Previously Mr. Nickull co-founded Yellow Dragon Software corporation, a privately held developer of XML messaging and metadata management software, acquired by Adobe in 2003. He previously served as CTO and President of XML Global Technologies, a publicly traded software company acquired by Xenos Group in early 2003 where he architected several key technologies including XTRACT, an intelligence gathering and Bayesian theorem inference engine to flag persons of interest to law enforcement officials and recover stolen property.

Best Practices for Engineering Enterprise Flex Applications

As enterprises use Flex applications increasingly for both internal applications as well as to reach out to their customers, these applications have become critical to the success of businesses. This implies that the applications should be not only be useful & intuitive, but also be high performance, maintainable, and flexible to be able to react to changing demands. In this workshop you will learn how to architect and optimize large-scale enterprise applications in Flex.

This workshop delves into best practices to improve modularity and performance of Flex applications. This includes methods of organizing code for large projects, exploring the framework's module and RSL capabilities. You will and also learn how to leverage Adobe developer tools, like the sophisticated Flash Builder 4.5 Profiler, to investigate and isolate performance and memory bottlenecks.

Additionally you will be exposed to tools like Flex PMD that can further assist with building enterprise grade applications.

Anirudh Sasikumar is a Computer Scientist working on Flash Builder at Adobe. He enjoys programming and simply can't think of not hacking away at code whether it is in ActionScript, Lisp, C++, or Java. In his spare time, he reads a lot of fantasy books and plays basketball. Framework-based Development for Flex Applications

Rich Internet applications built with Flex and AS3 are now widely prevalent and frequently used for large enterprise applications used by thousands of users. These are complex applications built by large, collaborating teams situated across the globe and collaborating on several aspects of an application simultaneously. In this workshop, you will learn how to architect such large RIAs and structure them for scalability and maintainability across its lifetime. MVC is a popular pattern used to manage such applications and this workshop will dive into a couple of the popular MVC frameworks and explain how they can be used to create scalable applications. You will be taken through a hands-on experience of building a simple application with Parsley and Cairngorm.

Producing HTML5 and CSS3 Web Content with Adobe Tools

Working with HTML has never been so exciting! As HTML5 and CSS3 gathers momentum, modern browsers are evolving in tandem, expanding the realm of possibility for the web content producers. Even as the evolution continues, early adopters have started taking advantage of some of this new technology; and here is an opportunity to jump in early and get your hands dirty This workshop will take you through the basics of HTML5 and CSS3 through working with the new semantic tags, building some animation awesomeness with the <Canvas> tag to doing some incredibly cool CSS 3 styling. You will also get introduced to programming with HTML5 video & audio tags along with web sockets, server sent events, geo-location and local storage. Needless to say here is your chance to also see some of the work Adobe has been doing in its tool chain to support web content production using HTML5, CSS3 and other related technologies. At the end of this workshop, you will be ready to take your first steps in building some cool stuff with all the new features HTML5 and CSS3 has to offer.

He is also a UX design and usability expert and has spoken at several large conferences within the country and abroad.

Ramesh has worked on a variety of technologies over 17+ years. He holds an M. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Mumbai. Ramesh has led R&D initiatives at top technology companies and has a wealth of experience working with several product and Web 2.0 companies. As an evangelist & senior computer scientist at Adobe, Ramesh leads the evangelism initiatives of Adobe in India. He works closely with the developer community, helping them understand and adopt the power of Adobe's RIA technologies to build the next generation rich internet applications. Ramesh is immensely passionate about design, computational linguistics and artificial intelligence.
