deCarta Location-enables Opera Browsers

Location-enabled services have shown dramatic growth in the past twelve months. As GPS is integrated into more handsets, many mobile services use location to provide valuable context for the user experience, whether seeing information on a map, finding places nearby or getting directions.

Mobile-browser provider Opera Software has partnered with California-based deCarta to bring maps, local search and travel routes to Opera browsers. Under the agreement, Opera can refer its users to access maps, local search and travel routes quickly, localized for their region.

"Location is becoming more and more important for a full Web experience," said Christen Krogh, Chief Development Officer of Opera Software. "With this partnership, Opera continues to expand its innovative offerings to bring our users a more convenient browsing experience." "We're delighted that Opera chose deCarta to differentiate their LBS offering in the market. This strategic relationship with Opera should extend mapping and local search capability to hundreds of millions of new users worldwide", said J. Kim Fennell, CEO and President of deCarta.

deCarta is an independent geospatial software platform that enables high-volume Location-Based Services (LBS) applications in the mobile, personal navigation, enterprise fleet and Internet markets. The solution can be implemented on the server-side, and allows customer companies (like application developers, service providers, and mobile handset OEMS) the option to customize LBS offerings and self-brand. The solution also boasts of a wireless facility and search feature.

The company's customers and technology partners include Appello, ATX, AutoTrader.co.uk, Ford, FullPower, Gearworks, General Motors OnStar, Hotels.com, INRIX, LG electronics, Local Matters, loopt, Maps.com, Multimap, NAVTEQ, Networks In Motion, Opera, T-Mobile, Samsung, Tele Atlas, Verizon and WHERE.
